Avoid these Interior design mistakes

The internal appearance of the house is as important as the external one. It takes time, creativity and hard work to come up with beautiful, innovative and crafted interior designs. Although interior design has now been developed into full scale business and regarded as an art in itself, there are a few interior mistakes that we do and should be avoided.

Not buying enough at a time
Buy the several items you might need within a category in one shot. Say buying Bed room items. From mattress to bed spread through bed cover and quilt with pillow covers should be bought in one go. Besides saving on repeated costs of transportation, you also run up a sizeable bill which gets you tagged a special status of a ‘large buyer’

Frequenting too many stores
Find a large store with sufficient stocks of items in various price levels. By becoming a regular customer, you can negotiate better price to better service, delivery terms etc.

Decorating without help
You always need help when it comes to decorating your home. Or else you will take more time and energy for doing it. Make your décor perfect by obtaining help of a professional interior designer. If you don’t or cannot afford to pay a professional, find a friend who dabbles it.

Opting for no bed headboard
Headboards are considered to be the most striking feature of the bedroom. If you don’t want to apply it on your bed, you can paint the bed’s back wall in an attractive and dramatic way.

Over furnishing a room
Do not over furnish and overfill the room with furniture. Leave plenty of walking space. Don’t fill a room’s empty spaces with unnecessary furniture. Just furnish the room with medium content.

Avoiding the use of mirrors and nature
Using mirrors will make the room look bigger and brighter as it reflects the lightning. Adding plants in your room creates a more natural feel. With the plants, you will have a new refreshing ambience.

Replace CFL Bulbs with LED
Light Emitting Diode or LED lamps consume less power, saves energy, has much lower carbon footprint yet provides bright and adequate luminance watt by watt.

Busting Home Decor Myths

Home décor is an art in itself. You add a new dimension while you decorate your beloved home. When it comes to decorating it, you don’t need to have any restrictions. However, it is said that there are some rules which dictate the process and should never be questioned. Ever! We are going to bust some home décor myths. So here it goes.

White is not always right:
It is said that the color white is perfect for every room, especially for the ceiling. That’s not always right. It’s a popular belief that white ceiling makes your room larger, brighter and brings positive energy to home and your lives’.  You can play with any color of your choice for the ‘ideal ceiling’. You can even apply white color in your ceiling but with black stripes.

Don’t mix pattern with prints:
Many people are of the view that mixing patterns with prints doesn’t work. You can mix different types of patterns with prints. Using your common sense will be the ultimate solution to this problem. It’s only your vision of the ‘dream home’ that should be the vital one. Placing white colored cushions on your bed sheet with blue prints looks amusing. You can also use velvet curtains with patterns around the room and even can place a green sofa against the yellow wall as the background.

You should not experiment with your vintage assets:
People share a special pride for possessing vintage assets ranging from age-old furniture, gadgets and even clothes. However, many people hesitate about experimenting with their vintage assets. The sky is the limit when it comes to experimenting with your prized vintage assets. You can paint your old dark red table or even put a bright new age bed sheet on your protected vintage bed. This creates a marriage between the two worlds, the Vintage and modern.

Mixing Blue and Green doesn’t work:
Many people follow the notion that mixing blue and green color does not work. According to them, it won’t be appealing to the on-lookers. Even though blue and green are known to be the cold ones in the color scale, mixing or even applying both of these colors in a proper way will be appealing to the viewers. You can spread a green bed sheet on your bed with blue pillows over it. Mixing of these two colors adds cool dimension to the room.

Sofa is the most important feature of the living room:
Many people are of the view that sofa is the most important feature of the living room. But is that true?. Certainly not. You can make any item of your living room it’s most important feature. Items like cushions, curtains, tables, television, vases, etc can also be the special feature of your living room.
In the end, it’s likely to say that myths put barrier to your home décor. Your decision and creativity are the solution to put an end to it. Experiment with different colors, styles and items in order to add new dimension and life to the home of your dreams.
