Design Trends for 2017

It feels like just yesterday we were drinking champagne and celebrating the New Year and now it’s almost 2017, which means only one thing: It's already time to discuss which home decor trends will define the next year.

Upholstered headboards
Upholstered headboards will not only make your bed extra cozy and stylish, but also grab eyeballs. These gorgeous items elevate the style and look of any bedroom, regardless of colour or size. For a softer look, you can go for a fabric covered piece and soften the look of heavier wood or any type of metal furniture used in the rest of the bedroom. Upholstery headboards are enchanting and are indeed one of the major trends of home décor design trends to watch out for in 2017.

Reading Areas
This one is for all the bibliophiles out there! Reading areas are the best way to combat our technology driven lives. Reading areas don’t need to a lot of space. Clear space near a window, or find a silent corner, add a mattress/beanbag/swing, throw colourful cushions on them, add lamps and you are sorted. You can also add a small side table to place your coffee mug and you will have all the ingredients for a perfect weekend.

Terracotta
Terracotta has turned out to be one of the most popular trends to watch out for in 2017. Terracotta is a type of clay-based ceramic earthenware which is making a big comeback, and how! Gone are the days when brass and bronze dominated the interior home décor. Instead, it seems that people are picking and adding up terracotta to be a part of their home décor. There are a great variety of terracotta items, which range from large granaries to penholders. Don’t worry, they are not boring. They also come with a variety of decorations such as painted with dyes and are occasionally polished. It can bring on an earthy feeling, and add a fun element to your home depending on your theme.

Wallpapers
It’s time to turn away from subtle and boring wall colours and turn to art-inspired wallpaper. 2017 will open up a new world of visual possibilities, and walls will lead the way.Wallpapers are no longer associated with charming prints reminiscent of your beloved grandma’s house. Instead, they’re becoming more creative, and more high fashion. We’re all trying to create a unique home environment and these new wallpapers will do just that.

Pastel
Pastels are the hottest colour trend of the year, and we're seeing them in a whole new way. Say goodbye to those babydoll hues you once knew. When paired with neon accents and bold colours, soft pastels are a fresh and trendy way to make a statement in any space. Dark pastels are also great to go for more ‘adult’ spaces like breakfast areas and home offices.

Vintage Items
There is a saying “Vintage is the new modern” and it is definitely true for the coming year. If you’ve been paying attention to Pinterest, you’ve probably noticed a plethora of decorating ideas that utilize vintage items. From using Mason jars as light fixtures and old ladders as towel racks, to refurbishing older dressers into media centers, vintage décor is all the rage.

Decorating with vintage items can encompass several decades and aesthetics, and there are a lot of great ways to decorate with vintage style. Some people like the primitive look with a lot of time-worn wooden furniture, quilts, cracks and old kitchen utensils. Some like the shabby look, with chippy painted furniture, the vintage linens, oil paintings and pottery, and some like farmhouse style, where they use farm finds like ladders, pulleys, windows and old doors. There’s also a rustic style where you decorate with hunting or fishing items like deer horns and traps. Either way, there’s really no wrong way to do it, and moreover, it’s important to just surround yourself with items you love.
Design trends change from time to time. People are experimenting with their home décor and acquiring different and diverse tastes. You can even create your own and unique home décor by using innovation and personal taste. In the future, we will see numerous design trends. It can be said that avant garde will be the new mantra of design trend.
